ABOUT

Spirited characters, full of emotions and deep insight, craving for the liberating experience of beinG

The doors or the windows create the correspondence between archaic and modern, sacred and telluric, between imagination and reality, self and universe, ego and super-ego. The letters, a pervading motif in all his artworks, are nothing else but a symbol of the Logos and of information. All these amalgamate into the surrealist style attributed to Ciprian Istrate.

The characters are, in essence, one single entity, analogous to the universal being: “we all are one”!
The different faces reflect just the variety of human perspectives and emotions unravelling daily in front of us.

The artist is born in Piatra-Neamt, the hometown of the renowned Victor Brauner, into a mountainous space marked by traditions and folklore, into a conservative society with a pronounced religious spirit.

This was his family legacy which he assumed but he also began to see beyond it,  he began his own quest. This complete time-lapse of his quest, of revelation and self-discovery, is reflected rhythmically in his artworks.

“Everything one can imagine about me may be true!”

“Along the creative path I have adopted numerous styles and techniques. The present one defines me to the utmost. It is a style of painting that is initiatic, pure and spiritual. Each element transposed on canvas bears a meaning, nothing is aleatory.”

During the coming years he was present in group and personal exhibitions both in his native country AND internationally.

“What I create is a sort of work that I crave to show to people because it distillates within. Through my works I speak about knowledge as a path of awakening, of discovering the self, of accepting oneself naturally, of breaking through the stereotypes, so that one can feel the genuine scent of liberation.

Education institutions confine you, the traditions limit you, others’ experiences guide you only on paths already walked upon. It is comfortable for you to follow them blindfolded, without questioning. We accept as a machine mechanism what we must and what we must not, what is proper and what is improper, what is good or bad while the genuine knowledge, deep insight and introspection empower us to discover our inner equilibrium.

Freedom lies in each one of us, we must only open our eyes largely enough to see it.
